Gorillas are our close cousins, sharing about 98% of our DNA—which might explain why they also enjoy lounging, snacking, and giving side-eye when disturbed. Despite their tough appearance, gorillas are mostly peaceful, plant-munching vegetarians who prefer a leafy salad over a fight.
A group of gorillas is called a troop, usually led by a “silverback”—the wise, seasoned leader with that distinguished patch of silver hair. Think of him as the forest CEO, except his boardroom is full of trees and the occasional banana.
Sadly, gorillas face threats from habitat loss, poaching, and disease. Conservation efforts are vital to ensure these majestic primates keep beating their chests in the wild instead of just in documentaries.
