August 8 is International Cat Day, and if you’ve ever shared your home with a cat, you’ll know they think every day is Cat Day. But today, the rest of us get to celebrate these fluffy (and sometimes feisty) companions who have quietly taken over our homes, our hearts—and let’s be honest—the entire internet.

Here are some fur-midable facts about our feline overlords:

😼 They’re Only Pretending to Love You Just kidding (sort of). Cats do show affection—just in their own mysterious way. That slow blink they give you? That’s basically the cat equivalent of "I love you." Soak it up.

🐾 Toe Beans of Power Cats walk on their tiptoes, and those adorable squishy pads—toe beans—are packed with nerve endings, helping them silently stalk toys, snacks… or your ankles at 3 a.m.

🧼 Built-In Cleaning Machines Cats spend up to 50% of their waking hours grooming. That’s the equivalent of a human spending 12 hours a day brushing their hair and moisturizing. Respect.

🎵 Purr More, Stress Less A cat’s purr isn’t just adorable—it’s healing. Studies suggest purring may reduce stress and even promote bone healing. So yes, your cat is basically a furry little wellness coach.

👑 Worshipped in Ancient Times (Still Are) In ancient Egypt, cats were considered sacred and even mummified. Fast-forward to today, and your cat still expects to be worshipped. Some things never change.

So whether you're a lifelong cat devotee or just appreciate a good “cat in a box” meme, take a moment this International Cat Day to celebrate the quiet (and not-so-quiet) joys of feline friendship.

And if your cat walks across your keyboard today—just let them. It’s their day, after all. 😺
