Today, we celebrate one of Australia's most ancient and awe-inspiring animals — the crocodile!

Australia is home to two species of crocodile:🌊 Saltwater crocodile (Crocodylus porosus) – the world’s largest living reptile, found in northern Australia’s coastal regions, estuaries, and rivers.🌿 Freshwater crocodile (Crocodylus johnstoni) – smaller and generally less aggressive, living in inland rivers and billabongs.

These remarkable reptiles have been around since the time of the dinosaurs and play a vital role in healthy ecosystems. They keep fish populations in check, maintain wetland balance, and even influence the shape of waterways.

But crocodiles face threats from habitat loss, pollution, and climate change. On this day, let's celebrate their power, beauty, and resilience — and commit to protecting their wild homes for generations to come. 🐊🌏
